Ruth Gloria Brown Young of Long Beach died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, in Gulfport. She was 87.
Mrs. Young was born in Brooklyn, NY and was a long-time Gulf Coast resident. She moved to Biloxi with her husband in 1954, where they began a family, and then moved to Long Beach in 1962, where they raised their three children.
Mrs. Young was an active member of St. Patrick's Episcopal Church. She worked for the Gulfport law firm Eaton, Cottrell, Galloway & Lang, and later Galloway & Galloway as a legal secretary for 20 years. After retiring, she and her husband, Sam, travelled the country in their RV. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, and enjoyed her cats, gardening, reading, collecting pictures, and spending time with her many dear friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Mark S. (Sam) Young Jr., and her parents Pauline and Charles Brown.
She is survived by two sons, Mark S. (Elizabeth) Young III, of Pass Christian and David C. (Alison)Young, of Long Beach; a daughter, Linda Young (Jeffrey) Kercher of Seattle, WA; a sister, Alice Weltmer of Titusville, FL; eight grandchildren, Melissa, Samantha, Lauren, Christopher, Michael, Daniel, Ethan and Eli; and four great-grandchildren, Isabel, Carter, Leah and Harris.
The memorial service will be held Monday, Jan. 21, at 6 p.m. at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, Long Beach, 310 N. Cleveland Ave., Long Beach.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Patrick's Episcopal Church or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
