Russell J. Thurston

Russell J. Thurston died on February 23rd at the Open Arms Hospice in Kiln, Mississippi. Russell was a native of Irvington, Alabama and a resident of Long Beach, Mississippi since 1946. It was here where Russell and his wife Betty raised their four children. Betty died in 1995 and Russell remarried. His second wife, Lois Collins Thurston died in 2007. After Hurricane Katrina, Russell resided in Picayune, MS. Russell was 91 years old.
Russell had a long and satisfying career as a sales manager for a linen supply and uniform rental company located in Gulfport, Mississippi.
Russell never met a stranger as evidenced by his outgoing personality and ease in relating to his incredibly long list of friends and acquaintances he met in this life. He will be sorely missed by all.
Russell is survived by a sister, Mrs. Marjorie Thurston Graham of Irvington and a brother Stanley of Mobile. Three daughters, Rae Senseney (Joe), Betty Jo Meece (Roger), Lynn Jarrell (Greg) and one son, Dannny . Six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Per Russell's request, funeral services will be private. A memorial service celebrating his life and many accomplishments will be held at a later date.
Russell's family wishes to express their deep and sincere appreciation and affection to Darleen Storey of Open Arms Hospice who went to such lengths to insure Russell's final days were spent in comfort and dignity.
