Roy Francis Pharr, 66, of Gulfport, died, Wednesday, May 17, 2006 in Gulfport.
Mr. Pharr was born March 25, 1940 in England, Arkansas. He was raised and educated in Illinois and Indiana before making his home in Mississippi. He served eight years in the United States Navy and later continued his service by serving an additional four years in the United States Air Force. After his distinguished military service, Mr. Pharr worked as a tow-boat captain for over 20 years. After his retirement he enjoyed a career as a gaming dealer with the Imperial Palace Casino of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He was crowned King of Les Femmes Mardi Gras Krewe in 1982 and worked diligently with the Krewe for many years. He was also a proud member of the American Legion.
Mr. Pharr is preceded in death by his parents, Doris J. Pharr and Irene Blackwell Pharr, one granddaughter, Sierra LeeAnn Cole and son in law, Richard Hamilton.
Mr. Pharr is survived by his wife of 29 years, Emily Pharr of Gulfport; four children, Nan Bolt of Atlanta, GA, Pamela Hamilton Higginbotham and husband Dennis Frith of Pascagoula, Ed Cole and wife Angel of Mathiston, MS and David Lovett of Gulfport; four grandchildren, Allison Augustine and husband Tommy of Ft. Meyers, FL, Lindsay Hamilton of Pascagoula, Lacie and Justin Cole both of Mathiston, MS.
Mr. Pharr was proud to be the great grandfather of Coleton Emerson and Anthony Augustine.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. at Gulf Coast Funeral Homes, Three Rivers Road Chapel, Gulfport, with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will take place at Biloxi National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Odyssey Hospice, 9414 Three Rivers Road, Suite 3, Gulfport, MS 39503.
