Betty Rose Nichols, age 73, of Gulfport, passed away on July 29, 2023.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Mary Jane Bane; a son, Joseph Balog; 2 sisters, Maxine Robbins and Marie Kirk; father of her children, William Balog; and a son-in-law, Mark Slade.
She is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Scott Nichols; her children, Rose Doeing, David Balog (Cathy), Malissa Rutledge (Johnnie), Stephanie Hicks, and Simone Leonard; a sister, Linda Russell (Randy); 10 grandchildren, Stephanie Balog, Michael Balog, Alyssa Doeing, Joseph Slade, Brian Rutledge, Brandon Rutledge, Alexander Rutledge, Cameron Rutledge, G.G. Leonard, and Bryce Kryner; 5 great-grandchildren, Kara Bonney, Dante Bonney-Doeing, Syn Slade, Lillyan Rutledge, and Mason Rutledge; a niece, Candy Weaver (Gary); and other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Nichols was a native of Merrivile, Indiana and was a long time resident of Gulfport. She retired from the Island View (Copa) Casino where she worked in the custodial department. Mrs. Nichols was a part of a bowling league championship team and she enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune and The Bachelor, enjoyed weekend get aways, talking on her phone and drinking coffee. Most of all, she loved family gatherings, loved interacting with her children and grandchildren, and she had a special love of singing.

Visitation will be on Friday, August 4, 2023, from 5 – 8 pm at the Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport and also from 9 – 10 am on Saturday, August 5, 2023. The funeral service will be at 10 Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
