Rosa "Rosie" Johnston

April 20, 1936 — October 17, 2022

Gulfport

Rosa (Rosie) L Johnston went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 17, 2022, from her home in Gulfport, Mississippi. She had been a resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast for 56 years.

She was born April 20, 1936, the daughter of the late Robert A. and Omie Lee Scoggins and had 3 siblings. She was married to the late Clifton H Johnston Sr, who retired from the United States Air Force and the Mississippi Power Company.

She was a full-time homemaker and mother of 5 children. She enjoyed her flowers and gardening, jigsaw puzzles, sewing, and adored little children. She was “Grandma Rosie” to many boys and girls through the years, some who have grown up and have children of their own who call her “Grandma Rosie”. She has been a member of Bible Baptist Church of Gulfport for 56 years where she taught several children’s Sunday School classes and worked in the nursery.

She is survived by her 5 children; son and daughter-in-law, Cliff and Johnette Johnston of Mobile, AL, daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Ken Moholland of Fredericksburg, VA, son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Becky Johnston, of Gulfport, MS, daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Richard Morgan, of Lattimore, NC, and son and daughter-in-law, David and Leslie Johnston, of Gulfport, MS; sister, Mary Oldham, of Belton, MO; sister-in-law, Audrey Johnston, of Clinton, MS; 9 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Robert A and Omie Lee Scoggins; sister and brother, Audrey Leblanc and Thomas Scoggins; granddaughter, Rachel Moholland; and husband, Clifton H. Johnston Sr.

The family would also like to thank Ally, David, Beverly, Jamie, Samantha, and especially Liz of Southern Care Hospice for their help, care, and encouragement during her final 2 weeks. They were all a blessing to the family.

As per her wishes, her body was donated to Science Care Program for scientific study in hopes of helping others.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022, at Bible Baptist Church, 12200 Dedeaux Rd, Gulfport, MS. The family will be receiving friends from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, she requested that donations be made to the missions fund at Bible Baptist Church of Gulfport.
