Ronald G. Bond, age 81, of Ocean Springs, passed away on April 19, 2019.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ronnie R. Bond; his mother, Bernadine Saujon Verdin; his father, George "Buck" Bond; and a son-in-law, Anthony G. Skrmetti.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Evelyn Earhart Bond; his children, Ronald "Bo" Bond, Jr. (Angela); Celena Bond Ladner (Andy), Brenda Bond Skrmetti, Cindy Bond Venus (Gordon), Jackie Bond Freeman, Bernadette Bond Parker (Billy), and Christy Bond Broussard (Ray); 20 grandchildren, Amanda Ladner, Staeshia Bond, Jason Morris, Derek Braxton, Michelle Taylor, Kari Welch, Blake Pyron, Timmy Ebbitt, Christopher DeArce, Jacquelyn DeArce, Devon Bond, Ashton Bond, Ashley Bond, Shana Mohler, Trey Freeman, Celena Broome, Billy Parker, Jr., Caleb Parker, Brandon Broussard, and Gavin Broussard, 27 great-grandchildren; and other beloved relatives and friends.
Mr. Bond was a lifelong resident of the coast and he served in the U.S. Marine Reserves and later he served in the U.S. Army where he was a part of Airborne division. He was a graduate of Biloxi High School where he was a standout on the football and track team. He was named to the All Big 8 first team his senior year and was selected to play in the North-South All Star Football Game. He was also a sprinter on the track team and held several state records until recently. He was awarded a football scholarship to Mississippi State University but following an injury, he returned home and enlisted in the Marines. In 2016, he was inducted into the Biloxi Sports Hall of Fame as recognition for his stellar high school athletic career. He worked in construction most of his life but found his true love on the water working on the shrimp and oyster boats. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Ocean Springs.
Visitation will be on Friday, April 26, 2019, from 9 - 10 am at St. Michael's Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am in the church followed by honors to be rendered by the U.S. Army. A private interment will take place in Biloxi City Cemetery.
