Obituary

Roland E. “Eddie” Mullins, Jr.

Biloxi, Mississippi

With heavy hearts but abiding peace, we announce that Roland E. “Eddie” Mullins, Jr., 75, of Biloxi, went home to be with his Savior on Monday, March 30, 2026, surrounded by his wife and family.

Born in Starkville, Mississippi, Eddie lived in Biloxi nearly all his life. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Roland E. Mullins, Sr. and Lena Ann (Shook) Mullins and his in-laws, Maj. Richard S. Smith and Norma Irene (Powers) Smith.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Juanita “Nita” Smith Mullins; daughter, Jennifer (Martin Schmidt) of Keene, New Hampshire; son, Roland III (Jessica Tyner) of Hudson, Florida; and brother, John A. Mullins of Philadelphia, Mississippi. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who were blessed by his steady faith, service, and love.

An Eagle Scout, member of the Order of the Arrow, and past Scout Master, Eddie remained a lifelong supporter of Camp Wilkes and Scouting America. He was a Master Mason of Fellowship Lodge #630 and Polar Star Lodge #174, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Freemason, and a Shriner with Joppa Shrine Temple.  He was also a life member of the University of Mississippi Alumni Association and the Ole Miss Loyalty Foundation.

A dedicated clinical pharmacist, Eddie retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs after 27 years of service and continued caring for military members, retirees, and their families for 22 years as a contract pharmacist at Keesler Medical Center. Additionally, Eddie retired from the Walmart Pharmacy Division after 27 years. He was a member of the Mississippi Society of Hospital Pharmacists, served as past president of the Mississippi Board of Pharmacy, and was a clinical instructor for the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy. A published author and item writer for the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, he helped develop the first computerized national pharmacy licensure examination and authored the seminal article on computerized medication administration.

An avid model train enthusiast and collector, Eddie was one of the founding members of the Traintastic Train Museum and a member of the Model Train Collector’s Association of America. He was a member of the Biloxi Yacht Club and loved Mardi Gras, serving as Duke in various krewes and riding floats to toss throws to the crowd.

Above all, Eddie was a man of quiet strength and deep faith. A longtime member of First Baptist Church Biloxi, he and Nita first met in Sunday School at J.T. Leggett Memorial United Methodist Church in Biloxi — Eddie in fourth grade and Nita in third grade. She became his best friend, his sweetheart, and his wife of nearly 54 years. Together they built a home rooted in faith, love, and unwavering devotion.

In his final weeks, Eddie remained clear-minded and ready to enter the Lord’s perfect rest. After receiving his final communion with his wife and children, he slipped peacefully into the arms of his Savior.
