Robert "Willie" Wilson

May 20, 1940 — May 20, 2015

Robert ""Willie"" Wilson; Sunrise was May 20, 1940. Sunset was May 20, 2015
Born in Quincy, MA, Robert was the son of Walter and Elizabeth Wilson, and brother of Janet Wilson. ""Willie"", as his friends called him, retired from Huntington Ingalls and enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and spending part of each year in Cape Cod, which he considered ""home"".
This amazing man left us with many wonderful memories and put everyone before himself.
Willie was diagnosed with metastasized esophageal cancer on Dec. 10, 2014, and elected to forgo any treatment in lieu of enjoying family and friends for as long as he could. His one and only goal from that point was to live to his 75th birthday, which he fought tremendously for and succeeded; for 25 minutes.
Trying to come to terms with the ""new normal"" are his children, Dana Wilson of Rhode Island, Jennifer Wilsey (Donnie) of Gautier, and Jared O'Neal (Keli) of Tampa. The twinkle in his eyes were for his four grandchildren: Sage, Ethan, Sophia and Stella. As well as a very special friend, Karen Tipton.
Willie's children would like to say ""thank you"" to the following individuals that fully gave themselves to help their dad through his fight with cancer: Karen Tipton, Ana Sigalas Turner, and Bettye Wilson-Brokl. Without you, dad would have not met his goal. We would also like to thank Gentiva Hospice, specifically Christy Thornhill, Tonya Prevost, Lynn Scafidi, and Patrick McGill; and all parishioners and friends from St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Tampa. Lastly, to our spouses, thank-you for your support, patience and understanding through this difficult time. We love you.
If you would like to make a contribution in Willie's memory, please do one of the following:
• ""The First Tee"" (www.thefirsttee.org) which is an organization that helps children learn the valuable life lessons that the game of golf provides.
• Bring a bag of dog or cat food to your local shelter. He adored animals and is now, we're sure, walking along a beach in heaven with his #1 Dog...Ralph, who passed away last year.
Willie's life will be remembered at his residence on Saturday, June 6, 2015 beginning at 5:00pm. The family welcomes all of those that knew him to come share their memories. If you didn't have the pleasure of meeting Willie, we're truly sorry. He would have left a giant footprint on your heart just like he did ours.
Goodbye Dad, we thank you and will love you forever.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, corner of Lemoyne Blvd. and Washington Ave., served the family.
