Robert James Tierney, age 86, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025, in Gulfport, Mississippi. Born in Newark, New Jersey, Bob grew up in Cranford, NJ, where he developed a love for basketball, playing for Cranford High School.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Patrick Tierney and Mary Agnes Tierney.
Survivors include his two sons, James Tierney and his wife Charlene, and Patrick Tierney; and four grandchildren, Zachary, Dylan, Alexandra and Angela Tierney.
Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War era. After his service, he dedicated 35 years to General Motors, retiring as the Director of Health and Security. His commitment to his work was matched by his devotion to his faith; he was an active member of the Roman Catholic Church and a cherished member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5437 for over 50 years, earning Honorary Lifetime Membership in 2013. He was also a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.
Bob had a passion for opera and classical music. He was an exceptional cook, known for his culinary skills and his enthusiasm for martinis. Bob loved to entertain, bringing joy and laughter to those around him.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Humane Society of South Mississippi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 15th, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., with visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Biloxi. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Ave. Biloxi, MS 39531.
