Obituary

Robert Sebastian, a devoted family man and respected member of his community, passed away on July 2, 2026, in Gulfport, Mississippi. Born on July 23, 1943, in Breathill, Kentucky, 1 of 12 children, Robert’s journey through life was marked by steadfast dedication, both to his loved ones and his distinguished career.

Throughout his life, Robert embodied the values of perseverance, service, and curiosity. His early years began in Kentucky, but as his profession called, he journeyed across the country with his family, answering the call to serve in the Navy. Robert’s expertise in maintaining missile systems was valued not only during his military career but also later in the private sector, where his commitment to excellence never wavered. His work supported critical defense initiatives, and he was deeply respected for his technical skills and reliability.

Following a career that took him through numerous relocations, Robert made his home in Gulfport, Mississippi, where he eventually retired. In retirement, he found joy pursuing lifelong passions and new adventures. Robert was an avid coin collector, delighted in the intricate world of model trains, and nurtured a passion for genealogy, tracing the threads that connected his family through generations. These interests brought him delight, new friendships, and continuous learning.

Perhaps one of Robert’s fondest chapters began when he and his beloved wife embarked on life’s great open road, embracing the freedom of full-time RV living for many years. Together, they explored the vast landscapes of the United States, collecting not just tokens and photographs, but lasting memories of their travels. This period of adventure reflected Robert’s zest for discovery and his appreciation for the beauty and breadth of his country.

Family was Robert’s true pride. He is survived by his son, Robert Sebastian; daughter, Katherine Porter; grandsons, Darryl Sebastian and Jacob Porter; and granddaughters, Addie Windfaldet and Samantha Porter. To his family, Robert will be remembered as a steady presence—offering guidance, wisdom, and abiding love. His values, stories, and legacy will echo for generations in those who knew and cherished him.

The community, his friends, and most especially his family mourn his loss but celebrate the gifts of compassion, curiosity, and dignity that Robert brought into the world. His life stands as a testament to a journey well-lived, guided by devotion to service, family, and the joy of discovery.

A private Graveside service will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery with full military honors.
