Robert Dean McHatton ""Bob"" of Ocean Springs, MS, went to be with his loving Savior, Jesus Christ on April 10, 2015, after a very short battle with a rare heart failure caused by multiple myeloma. He is safe in his Father's arms.
Bob graduated from Dothan High School in 1966 and also attained the highest honor of Eagle Scout. He served for seven years in the U. S. Navy as a corpsman and X-ray technician, including a tour in Italy where his oldest daughter Brandi was born. He served our veterans at the Biloxi VA Medical Center while he was completing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology/Sociology graduating Summa Cum Laude at The University of Southern Mississippi in 1979 and a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. He continued his education as one of the first on the coast to complete a Bachelor of Science in Radiology from William Carey College in 1980. He had many colleagues in radiology from Bay St. Louis to Biloxi where he worked at Biloxi Regional Medical Center for 16 years, mostly as an active technician supervisor, imparting as much of his knowledge as he could. He was Nationally Certified in MRI and CT and many say he was the best MRI technician on the coast.
His last years he spent in ministry, boldly speaking to others of his faith in Jesus Christ, as he was called to do. His most rewarding ministry was teaching with his wife Karlene in the cell blocks of the Harrison County Adult Detention Center in the Life Learning Program for the Good News Jail and Prison Ministry. He shared from his heart, making it real to the inmates, the freedom of Christ that he now had and the hope for them.
Because of his changed heart, he partnered in business, ""Changed Heart Creations"", a Christian book and gift store in Lucedale, MS and Mobile, Al where he designed and printed Christian T-Shirts. Through that ministry, many came for and gave prayer. He was dedicated to raising his family in a Christian home and imparting the love of Christ to all of them.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dean McHatton and his precious son, Robert Shannon McHatton.
He is survived by his wife of 13 ½ short years, Karlene whom he called his soul-mate; his mother, Verna Jean McHatton; his brother, Stephen (Martha) McHatton; daughters, Brandi (Jerrell) Necaise, Jessica Maguire, Brandi DePineuil; there granddaughters, Marissa Pritchard, Alexa and Catherine Necaise; four grandsons, Robert Shannon McHatton II, Maddox Fayard, Liam Maguire, Lucian Corona; and one great grandson, Zaiden Pritchard. Other special people he held near to his heart was his dear friend Keith Stokley, Joshua Fayard and Richard Corona whom he mentored like a father, and Charlotte McHatton, the mother of Brandi and Shannon.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorial to the Good News Jail and Prison Ministry so that Bobs work in the Lord can continue. Attn: Tony Graham, Chaplain P O Box 10619, Gulfport, MS 39505.
