Robert Donald "Bob" Lawrence, 63, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017, in Gulfport after a courageous battle with cancer.
Bob was born on March 25, 1954, in Bangor, Maine to the late Donald Clarence Lawrence and Beverly Belville Lawrence. As a military family, they moved from Maine, to Washington, DC, Virginia, Rota, Spain and transferred to Gulfport twice.
He graduated from Gulfport East High School, Class of 1972, and attended the University of Southern Mississippi. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Social Fraternity where he served as Treasurer. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Building and Construction Technology. Upon graduation Bob returned to the Coast and worked for H.B. Zachary during the construction of DuPont. After DuPont was completed, he worked as a General Superintendent and Project Manager at H. Gordon Myrick, Inc. for over fifteen years followed by employment at J. W. Puckett & Co., High Point Contractors and Wharton-Smith, Inc. Bob was known for his strong work ethic that carried throughout his construction career.
When he wasn't working, Bob enjoyed fishing, playing on his tractors in the country and exploring new restaurants with his wife, Jewel.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel A. Lawrence, LCDR; his maternal grandparents, Arthur Joseph and Lenona Williams Belville; and his paternal grandparents, Arthur Sylvester Lawrence and Florence Perry Walker.
Surviving family members, beside his mother, are his wife of nineteen years, Vita Jewel Wilson-Lawrence; son, Kirk Ryan Lawrence and his wife, Jaymi, and their son, Mason William Lawrence of Biloxi; Ryan's mother, Nancy Hodges Dunaway of Gulfport; Bob's sister, Patricia Lawrence Anderson and her husband, Larry and their daughter, Lauren Anderson and her husband, Matthew Powers Herring, and their son, Lawson Powers all of Madison, Alabama; sister-in-law, Lyn (Alfred) Delprato of Panama City, Florida; and brother-in-law, Dr. Ramsey Wilson and his wife, Shelia, and their son, Ashley Wilson and wife, Molly, and their children Owen and Cailynn, of Collins. Bob will be missed by his other aunts and cousins, and furry friends Lillie, Bear, and Tucker.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society of Harrison County.
Friends may visit from 4:00 - 6:00 PM on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 6 pm.
