Robert ""Bob"" C. Gmerek, age 71, died at his residence at Armed Forces Retirement Home, Gulfport, MS, on Thursday, January 7, 2016.
He is the son of the former Frank and Lottie Gmerek of Whiting, IN. Born February 15, 1944, in East Chicago, IN, he served in the Air Force at Tyndall AFB in Panama City, FL from 1962 to 1966. He did a tour of duty in the Vietnam War. Following his military career, he proudly served as a police officer with the Whiting Police Department in Whiting, IN from which he retired.
Survivors include his brother, Ronald Gmerek (May) of Oxford, AL; daughters, Dawn Hughes (Brian) of Philpot, KY, Christine Wolford (Anthony) of Utica, KY and Amy Hines (Jim) of Utica, KY; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and four nieces.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 12th from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, MS 39531. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery.
