~~Robert William Gilmore, age 94, a native of Leaf, MS, a resident of Necaise Crossing, formerly of DeLisle, passed away in Gulfport Wednesday, November 22, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Robert and Clara Fairley Gilmore; 4 brothers and 3 sisters, Vardaman, Chester, Ernest T., G.W., Lizzie, Frankie Mae, and Lula; his wife of 61 years, Melba McClendon Gilmore; a son, Bryant Gilmore and a grandson, Daniel Gilmore.
Mr. Gilmore is survived by a son, Robbie (Cathy) and daughter-in-law, Julia Gilmore, and by 5 grandchildren, Kenneth Gilmore, Brynia Gilmore, Erin Riggins, Amy Walker, Caitlin Holley; 13 great grandchildren and by a Special Friend, E.O. "Cowboy" Carnegie.
He served in the U.S. Army, 43rd Division, 172nd Infantry, Company H. Mr. Gilmore was a Veteran of World War II and was a Bronze Star Recipient among many other awards and medals.
For many years, he served as Farm Foreman for The Little h Farm in DeLisle, MS and later as mechanic for Ryan Walsh Stevedoring at Port of Gulfport. In his spare time, he raised, trained, and showed Quarter Horses and raced Thoroughbreds.
Mr. Gilmore was a former member of Twenty-One Riders.
Robert was a true patriot and humanitarian. He was loved by all he met and was known for his ability to warm hearts and bring smiles to faces through his gentle spirit and funny nature. "Happy trails to you, until we meet again."
A visitation for friends and family will be from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am service time at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL, 9113 Kiln DeLisle Rd. on Monday, November 27, 2017. Interment will be in the Necaise Crossing Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
