Robert ""Bob"" Cuccaro passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013 in Long Beach. ""I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."" 2 Timothy 4:7.
Bob was born in McKees Rocks, PA to Leonard and Margaret Cuccaro. He graduated from McKees Rocks High School in 1957, received his undergraduate degree from William Carey University, and graduate degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. After teaching five years in the Harrison Country and Biloxi School Districts, he taught biology and coached basketball at St. Stanislaus from 1967-1980 and Long Beach High School from 1980 to his 1998 retirement. He continued teaching at William Carey University on the coast until 2006. He was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame at William Carey in 2012.
He loved traveling with his wife, Jenny, and friends Etta and Jim Johnson as well as playing golf at Sunkist Country Club with many long-time friends. He enjoyed antique cars, playing the harmonica, listening to 50's music, and working in his yard. His greatest pastime was spending time with his daughters and playing with his grandchildren who called him GrandBob.
In addition to family, friends, and his church, coaching basketball was his love. He often said that coaching basketball was important but teaching life skills through it was even more so. He touched hundreds of lives with his wit and guidance and always hoped he made a difference.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Margaret Cuccaro; and his siblings, Joseph Cuccaro, Marie Marencel, Chuck Cuccaro, and Joanne Bovair.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jennifer Headrick Cuccaro of Long Beach; children, Leslie Earnest and her husband Todd of Baton Rouge, LA, and Kimberly Cuccaro of Fort Worth, TX; siblings, Betty Lou Pabst, Tillie Schaffer, and Katie Neider; and grandchildren, Sawyer and Slade Earnest.
