Rita Jengo Occhi, age 94, of Gulfport, passed away March 18, 2015 in Gulfport.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincenzo and Maria Anna Jengo.
Rita is survived by her husband of 70 years, Henry Occhi; her sons, Louis (Jill) Occhi and Robert (Gail) Occhi; her sisters, Elena Vaccaro, Rosaria Romano, and Angelina Mari, all of Italy, and Livia Czajka of Buffalo, NY; 8 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.
Rita is a native of Naples, Italy, and a resident of Gulfport. She received her graduate degree in philosophy from the University of Naples. She was employed as an alteration's seamstress at Laudell's, an adjunct teacher of interior design at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, and retired as an interior designer from Zondel Gardner. Her hobbies included needle arts (sewing, crocheting) and oil painting. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Gulfport.
The family of Rita Occhi is very grateful for the kindnesses shown during this time of sadness. Thank you all for your support and encouragement. We especially wish to acknowledge Gentiva Hospice for their loving compassion in the last moments of a very special life.
