Rita Mullins Amick of Long Beach, MS died peacefully surrounded by family and friends on September 30, 2019, at the age of 86. Rita was born and raised in St. John's, Newfoundland, one of 10 siblings to Frank and Elizabeth Mullins. She was a resident of Long Beach for 45 years. She made her way to the US, and ultimately to the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, as the wife of a Navy Seabee. She was a strong, independent woman, who raised three daughters to be just like her in that way. She was a hard worker, a no-nonsense mother, a cradle Catholic, a breast cancer survivor, casino enthusiast, a huge fan of her grandchildren and an unapologetic sweets addict. She was a loyal friend who deeply loved her long-time Newfoundland and Seabee friends with whom she shared many laughs, bad perms, hands of cards and cups of tea.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters and her favorite sons-in-law, Heather and Brandon Davis of Franklin, TN; Kristi and Mike Monson of Mobile, AL; and Denise and Bruce Carver of Long Beach, grandchildren Andrew Monson, Atlanta, GA; Nicholas Monson, Auburn, AL; Patrick, Katherine, Ethan and Matthew Monson, Mobile, AL; Rebecca Davis, Franklin, TN; and Bryce and Brianna Carver, Long Beach, sisters Eileen Oliver, Betty Brown and Sheila Calkins and many nieces, nephews and close friends that made her life so special, especially the Reiters, Doyles, Flemings, Lipskis and Therriens. A special thank you to the great ladies at Senior Oaks in Long Beach for the loving care given to Rita for the last 8 years, Brenda Chapman Sample, Jessica and Jaelee Fountain, Linda Evans, Rose Arceneaux, Neisha Williams and Kenshauna Warren.
A mass celebrating Rita's life will be held at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Long Beach, MS on Saturday, October 5 at 11:00 am.
