Richard N. ""Ricky"" Cook, age 55, of Mobile, AL and formerly of Gulfport, MS, passed away at his home October 27, 2014 in Mobile after a brief illness. At the time of his passing, Ricky was surrounded by members of his family and faithful German Shepherd sidekick, Dakota.
He was a native of Gulfport and was preceded in death by his father Ernest Cook. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Ann, and step daughter, Alison Garrett, son-in-law, Jared Farris, and mother-in-law, Frances M. Moseley, all of Mobile, Al. Ricky is also survived by his mother, Bernice Cook, and siblings, J.D. (Joan) of Florence, AL, Randy (Cynde) of Ooltewah, TN, Elisa of Seattle, Washington, and Mike (Kathy) of Long Beach.
Ricky was a career law enforcement officer, having begun his career as a dispatcher for the Harrison County Sheriff's Office before going to work for the Gulfport Police Department where he served as Patrolman, Patrol Sergeant, and Patrol Lieutenant. After retirement, he worked as a Court Security Officer at the Federal Courthouse in Gulfport. He also served as an assistant funeral director for Riemann Family Funeral Home
Visitation will be at The RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, on Sunday, November 2, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 P.M. with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 P.M. A private burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Humane Society of South Mississippi, the Humane Society of Mobile, or the Wounded Warriors Project.
