MSgt Richard E. Young, USAF, Ret, age 78, of Gulfport, passed away on July 18, 2016.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James A. Young, his brothers, Henry D., Herman, Glennis, Johnny, Earl, and Eugene Young.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Gladys C. Young, a son, Gregory (Teresa) Young, 2 granddaughters, Tina (Scott) Dodd and Dana (Jimmy) Ruiz, 3 great-grandchildren, AWS3 Anthany (Bailey) Dodd, U.S. Navy, Erin Ruiz, and Alicia Ruiz, 3 great-great-grandsons, Joseph Johnson, Eli Landry, and Ray Magee, 2 brothers, Carlos Young and Alan Young, and 1 sister, Dell Swindel, and numerous other relatives and friends.
He served in the U.S. Army and later retired after 38 years of service as a Master Sergeant from the MS Air National Guard. He was an active member of Lizana Baptist Church where he led the singing for many years. He was active in the community volunteering in many things from football, softball, and baseball, and served as a deputy with the Harrison County Sheriff's Office.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 21, 2016, from 5 - 7 pm at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. The funeral service will be at 11 am Friday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
