Richard A. Wells, age 79, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family. His life was a blessing, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Born in Iowa, Richard later grew up in Clarksdale, Mississippi, before being drafted into the United States Army. After faithfully serving his country for 28 years, he retired honorably in 1992 as a Command Sergeant Major. His military career took him to Germany, where he met the love of his life, Annemarie. Together, they traveled the world, building a life rooted in love, commitment, and shared adventure.

Following his military retirement, Richard began a second career in logistics with the Naval Construction Battalion in Gulfport, Mississippi. He retired once again in 2008, embracing a well-earned life of leisure, much of which was spent enjoying his passion for golf.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Kathryn Wells, and his niece, Ali Jenkins.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Annemarie Wells; his children, Tanya Cranshaw (Jack) and Stephanie Demarets (Brian); his siblings, Lynda Jenkins (Jimmy) and Sandy Wells Merrell; his cherished grandchildren, Harrison, Sydney, Brady, Bailey, and Kinsey; and his great-grandchild, Amberly. He is also survived by his nephew, Jim Jenkins, and his niece, Jennifer Jennings.

Richard was a decorated veteran, receiving numerous honors including the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two service stars, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and multiple Army Commendation Medals.

He made many lifelong friendships on the golf course and was a member of the Seabee Base Golf Course and the VFW in Long Beach. He enjoyed listening to 50s and 60s rock and roll and was known for his warm sense of humor and love of a good joke.

While Richard was deeply proud of his military service, his greatest pride and joy was his family. He loved deeply, gave generously, and found his greatest happiness in the time he spent with those he held dear. His steady presence, wisdom, and unwavering support will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in the memories we shared and the love he leaves behind a legacy that will continue to guide us always.

Family and friends are warmly invited to gather in honoring his memory at a graveside service with Army honors at Biloxi National Cemetery on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your local VFW.

Riemann Family Funeral Home, Long Beach, is honored to serve the Wells family during this difficult time.
