Richard Lee Umstattd (“Rich” or “Buster”) of Willow Springs, Missouri passed away after a lengthy illness on Friday, May 24, 2024 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.   

He formerly resided in Gulfport, MS for over thirty years.  Rich was born to John C. and Judy M. (Bergthold) Umstattd in Moberly, MO on December 5, 1952, and was 71 years of age. 

Rich graduated from Paris High School (MO) and immediately joined the U.S. Navy - Construction Battalion, aka as the “Seabees.”  He loved his experience in the Seabees and was stationed in many locations including California, Cuba, Greece, and the island of Jap. He served honorably for 10 years.  After discharged from the USN, Rich worked at E. I. DuPont de Nemours’ DeLisle Plant in MS for almost 30 years.  He was a Production Supervisor and retired in late 2010. 

Rich was an avid fishing and hunting enthusiast and was a fan of baseball, especially the Cardinals.  He was proficient in carpentry, welding, plumbing, and operating large equipment.  He was truly a giving and kind-hearted person who would always find time and ways to help people.

 Rich was preceded in death by his parents, John and Judy Umstattd. 

 He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Umstattd, of Willow Springs, MO; his brother Leonard Dean Umstattd (Kathy) of Fayette, MO; Joseph “Joe” Keith Umstattd of Madisonville, KY; his uncle, Richard Utterback of Warsaw, MO  (who was very dear to Rich, took him under his wings and taught him many skills that were very useful in his life); very special nephews, Kyle, Jonathon, and Joshua Umstattd; and special long-time friends, Randy and Maureen Sheets (MS).  Other siblings include Penny June Umstattd-Cope, Vicki Lynn Campbell, Curtis Michael Umstattd, and Daniel “Danny” Wayne Umstattd.

 Visitation will be held at Fenton-Kendrick Funeral Home in Centralia, MO on Thursday, May 30, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Burial will be on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO with full military honors. 

In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the Navy Seabee Foundation, Central Missouri Honor Flight or your favorite charity, and may be sent in care of Fenton-Kendrick Funeral Home 104 S. Collier St. Centralia, MO 65240.
