Richard Terry Mitchell was born December 30, 1950 in Dallas, TX, and passed away April 14, 2016 in Gulfport surrounded by his family.
Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, James Cecil Mitchell and Lydia Bernice (Smith) Mitchell; and his niece, Jody Lea Tankersley.
Terry is survived by his wife of 38 years, Paula Mitchell; three daughters, Kimberly (Carl) LaRosa, Kerry Caldarelli and Karen (Jay) Funderburk; brother, Dr. Jim (Judy) Mitchell; eight grandchildren, Sara Ashton LaRosa, Abigail LaRosa, Jessica (Brad) Gross, Courtney Caldarelli, Garrett Caldarelli, Amber Funderburk, Morgan Funderburk and Jay Mason Funderburk; nephew, Jamey (Meredith) Mitchell; niece, Shane (Scott) Porter; several great nephews; and great niece.
Mr. Mitchell graduated from Hillcrest High in 1969 in Dallas, TX, and from the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, in 1973 with a degree in education. He taught at Gulfport East High School and then Gulfport High School from 1973 until he retired in 1997.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Tayara and staff; Dr. Tilley and staff; the staff at Memorial Hospital and Select Specialty Hospital for the loving care given to Terry and the family during his prolonged illness.
Visitation will be at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach on Friday, April 15, 2016 from 6-8 PM and on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 10-11 AM with a Prayer Service at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Wiggins.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
