Reno A.
Cuevas Jr.
Jan 5, 1939 — May 6, 2026
Reno Arnold “Bud” Cuevas, Jr., 87, of Gulfport, Mississippi, passed away on May 6, 2026.
Bud was a lifelong resident of Gulfport and a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served from 1956 to 1959. In his earlier years, he worked in construction until an injury sidelined him, after which he channeled his energy into the pursuits that truly lit him up.
Bud was a hunter who served as President of the Grand Canyon Hunting Club, a pigeon racer, a gardener, a guitar player, and a familiar face at bingo halls and yard sales across the Coast. He was also a self-taught radio operator who ran an expansive CB setup with an antenna that could reach voices from around the globe — and he kept every letter and postcard to prove it, building friendships across the airwaves that most people never knew existed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Reno A. Cuevas, Sr. and Leona Cuevas; his beloved wife of 53 years, Kathleen H. Cuevas; and his sisters, Agnes Cuevas Moore and Dorothy Cuevas Brady.
He is survived by his sons, Reno Cuevas III of Gulfport and Ronald Cuevas (Kristina) of Saucier; his sister, Betty C. Graham of Gulfport; and his grandchildren, Arnold Melton, Raven Cuevas, and Brinley Cuevas.
Whether he was tending his garden, chasing pigeons, or tuning in to a far-off frequency, Bud brought his own brand of color to everything he did. He will be missed.
Memorial contributions can be made in Reno’s honor to the Gulf Coast Center for Non-Violence.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, Gulfport, is honored to serve the Cuevas family during this difficult time.
