Remedios "Remy" Tamundong Ballew, age 86, of Saucier, MS, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026, in Gulfport, MS.

Remy Ballew, born and raised in the Philippines, was best known for her incredible generosity, kindness, and the remarkable gift of making all feel welcome, loved, and at home.

As a young woman in the Philippines, Remy worked as a telephone switchboard operator, where she met the young Marine who would become her husband. Their marriage brought her to the United States and began a life together that would span 51 years. Through military moves, raising four children, working outside of the home, and eventually settling with their family on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Remy approached life with determination, humor, resilience, and an extraordinary willingness to work hard and care for the people around her.

Together, they built a family that became one of Remy’s greatest joys. She was the proud mother of four, Virgil (Jeninne), Cathy (Paul), Michelle (Greg) and Susan (Paul), grandmother of fourteen, and great-grandmother of five. Remy was welcomed in Heaven by her mother (Victoria), her husband (Virgil Sr.) and her granddaughter (Synclaire). Known as Mom Mom to some and Nonni and Grandma to others, she had a special way of making each person she loved feel as though they were the most important person in the world. To Mom Mom, you were always her “number one.”

Remy spent much of her life taking care of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, and anyone else fortunate enough to find themselves at her table. She always made sure stomachs were filled and hearts were fulfilled before leaving.

Equally known for her love of music, Remy was always ready to share a song. She had a soft spot for a good Whitney Houston hit and was more than happy to join in a duet of “Endless Love.” She could strike up a conversation and a tune with just about anyone.

Remy left a lasting impact not only on her family, but on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy can be found in the generations she helped shape, in the family gathered around tables she so lovingly filled, and in the countless people who knew what it felt like to be cared for by her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 3, 2026, at St. Ann Catholic Church, Lizana. Friends are invited to join the family for visitation one hour prior from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Remy will be laid to rest at Biloxi National Cemetery.
