Raymond Joseph Schmidt, Jr., age 76, of Long Beach, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2016, in Gulfport, MS.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond J. Schmidt, Sr., his mother, Anna D. Schmidt, and a brother, Ronald E. Schmidt, Sr.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Sue Ellen Schmidt, Long Beach, MS, 3 children, Raymond J. Schmidt, III and his wife LuCretia, Marrero, LA, Pamela S. Clifford and her husband David, River Ridge, LA, and Kristen M. Schmidt, Long Beach, a brother, Richard J. Schmidt and his wife Barbara, Lafayette, LA, 2 sisters-in-law, Linda A. DeRocher, Birmingham, AL, and Lisa M. Jones and her husband Scott, Port Huron, MI, 1 grandchild, Kayla Thomas, Marrero, LA, 5 nephews, 6 nieces, 10 great-nephews, 11 great-nieces, and numerous cousins and other relatives and friends.
Mr. Schmidt was a native of New Orleans and was a current resident of Long Beach. He was a graduate of East Jefferson High School and the University of New Orleans with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. He was employed with IBM for 30 years as a Field Engineer and he owned a PJ's Coffee franchise for 8 years. He enjoyed working with model trains, reading, traveling, bowling, woodworking, restoring 1960's Mustangs, and his greyhound.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at St. Thoomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 East Beach Blvd., Long Beach, MS. Visitation will be from 11 am - 12 noon. Burial will be in Biloxi National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
