Obituary

Ralph Eugene Berdine passed away on February 19, 2026, in Collierville, Tennessee. A dear friend to many, he was a motivator who influenced people’s lives through steady encouragement, genuine care, and a calm, uplifting presence. Always a gentleman, Ralph lived with kindness and optimism and inspired others—both in his words and in the way he showed up for family and friends. His warmth, wisdom, love of life, and gift for storytelling will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born May 8, 1937, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, Ralph grew up in West Virginia and Baltimore, Maryland. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1955 and served with pride for 20 years, retiring in 1975. During his career, he held both domestic and international assignments, including Vietnam, earned multiple awards, and retired with the rank of Major. Ralph led by example and encouraged others to do their best—qualities that stayed with him throughout his life. After retiring from the military, he taught history in secondary schools in Harrison County, Mississippi. He later continued his professional career as a Program Manager in the telecommunications, aerospace, and defense industries, living in Cocoa Beach, Florida; Raleigh, North Carolina; Fort Wayne, Indiana; Huntsville, Alabama; Glasgow, Scotland and Tampa, Florida. In 2023, he relocated to Collierville, Tennessee, and was a resident of The Farms LifeCare Community. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas Lutheran University and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Preceded in death by his mother, Doris Berdine; his father, Virgil Berdine; his brother, Virgil Berdine; and his sisters, Caralee Berdine, Sharon Brummet, and Mellie Dorff.

Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Beverly Berdine; his sons, Kevin Berdine and Darin Berdine; his daughter-in-law, Pam Berdine; his grandson, Evan Berdine; his sisters, Ida Evelyn Szewczk, Wilma Alderson, and Marta Cover; his brother, Lynn Berdine; his brother-in-law, Byron Cover; and many nieces and nephews.
