Master Chief Prentice W. Walker, US Navy (Retired), age 93, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, at his home in Saucier, Mississippi.
A native of Clarksville, Texas, Master Chief Walker proudly enlisted in the United States Navy in 1968. Over the course of his distinguished 26-year military career, he served during the Vietnam War and earned numerous decorations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and Sharpshooter Awards for both pistol and rifle. He was a gifted builder and respected carpentry instructor, known throughout the Navy for his skill, reliability, and dedication.
Prentice was a quiet, steady, and dependable man—always present, always prepared. He admired John Wayne, whose grit and character mirrored his own. After retiring from military service, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of country living. He spent his days gardening, tending to outdoor work, playing bingo, and finding joy in feeding and watching birds. He also enjoyed big band music from time to time.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Theresa Walker; his parents, James and Alice Walker; his brother, Howard Walker; daughters, Michelle Walker and Lisa Marie Walker; and son, Bobby Walker.
He is survived by his daughter, Sabra Wilson and her husband Herb Wilson; and brothers, Don Walker and Ron Walker.
A private interment will take place at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Gulfport.
