Phyllis Parmer Cowman

d. May 18, 2025

Long Beach

Phyllis Joy Cowman, 80, of Long Beach, MS, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025.

Born on August 23, 1944, in Dothan, Alabama, Phyllis was the daughter of Mertice Parmer Smith and James Preston Parmer, and her loving stepfather, Thomas Wesley Smith.

Phyllis was the sweetest and most soft-spoken person you could meet. She had a gentle, kind spirit and a heart full of love. She was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend — always putting her family first and never missing a chance to tell them how much she loved them.

She is survived by her loving son, Joshua Cowman, and his wife Tiffany, as well as the light of her life, her granddaughter Felicity, whom she adored beyond words. She is also survived by her sister, Beverly Carver (Bruce), and her brother, Larry Parmer (Kay); her nieces and nephew Scooter Carver (Denise), Kelli Carver, and Larri Fagan (Joey); and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, and her beloved husband, Don Cowman.

Phyllis had a long career in retail and bookkeeping, where her caring nature and attention to detail made her a joy to work with. She had a sharp sense of humor, a love for all things Elvis and a knack for making everyone feel special. She especially cherished the time spent visiting with her family and friends.

Phyllis's legacy is one of faith, unconditional love, quiet strength, and unwavering kindness. She never let a conversation end without expressing her love — a small but powerful reminder of the depth of her devotion to those around her.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to her devoted caregivers, Keri and Freddie Steube, who cared for her with dignity, grace, and true love. Special thanks also goes to Vital Caring — particularly Christine Ladner and Aryn Robinson — and her hospice nurse, Karla, whose support and kindness meant so much in her final days.

Phyllis will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
