Peggy Diane Scarbrough Hayes, a resident of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, passed away on December 20, 2025, at the age of 69. Born on November 29, 1956, in Mobile, Alabama, Peggy spent her life devoted to her family and her passions, leaving a rich legacy of love and dedication.
Throughout her career, Peggy was a talented hairstylist for over 30 years, with much of her time spent at Stylemasters II in Ocean Springs. She took great joy in enhancing her clients' appearances and confidence, fostering lasting relationships within her community. Additionally, she applied her organizational skills as a PBX operator at Grand Casino and also served as a manager at Mobile Press Register.
Peggy was passionate about education, having attended Community College, which allowed her to pursue her varied interests and career path. She found joy in spending quality time with her family, whether it was camping, participating in the rhythms of clogging, or celebrating during Mardi Gras festivities. These moments of connection highlighted her love for life and the importance she placed on family bonds.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Amy Carolyn Hayes Buchanan, and her cherished sisters, Cynthia Howard of Ocean Springs, MS, and Rbecca Bell of Ocean Springs, MS. Peggy also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins in Alabama and Florida, all of whom will carry fond memories of her warmth and spirit.
Peggy was preceded in death by her father, Otis Mixon Scarbrough, her mother, Jenney Carolyn Davis Scarbrough Woodruff, and her beloved boxer, Rocky, who undoubtedly brought her much joy during her lifetime.
Peggy was a fun-loving glam guru who loved helping others feel their most beautiful self, she will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Coastal Health Rehabilitation for the exceptional care provided to Peggy during her final days. Her legacy of kindness and warmth will continue to resonate deeply among those who knew and loved her.
A celebration of life is planned for March 8, 2026, at the Vancleave HUD building from 1:00-3:00 PM.
