Peggy Earline Switzer Geil, age 79, a lifelong resident of Gulfport passed away Monday, June 29, 2015.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Jerry Lynn Geil Sr.; her daughter, Jane Ann Geil; her parents, Earl and Clarisse Switzer; her sister, Yvonne Ellsberry; and her brothers, Eugene ""Sonny"" Switzer and Clyde Leroy Switzer.
Mrs. Geil is survived by her children, Vickie (Dennis) Swan, Jerry Lynn (Jenine) Geil Jr., Sharon (Jay) Burns, Karen (Howard) Walkinshaw, all of Gulfport, Debra (Walter) Knapp of Cutoff, LA, and Jeanie Crawford of Gulfport; her sibling, Gil (Linda) Switzer; her grandchildren, Dennis Swan Jr., Ashley (Zach) McCabe, Howie Walkinshaw, Kelley (Chris) Ladner, Christine (Donnie) Permenter, Brittany Knapp, Jay Burns Jr., Karen Burns, and Jacob Burns; and her great-grandchildren, Ava, Lily Jane, and Cameron McCabe, Gracyn and Grant Walkinshaw, Erica and Brian Permenter, and Luke and Jackson Ladner.
Mrs. Geil is a 1954 graduate of Orange Grove High School. She retired from the Harrison County School District in December of 2003 where she worked for over 30 years.
First and foremost mother was dedicated to family and serving God. In her lifetime she was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and an honorary mother to many. She was the first to volunteer her time and many gifts and talents to fill any need, be it provide a meal and lodging, organize and serve at church events, or work at a school activity. She will be best remembered for her nurturing and generous spirit, hospitality, years of service to the church and the Harrison County School District, and her passionate dedication to her family and friends.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of Lakeview Nursing Center for their loving care and devotion to our mother.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Gulfhaven Mennonite Church.
The Funeral Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Gulfhaven Mennonite Church with a visitation for family and friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow in Gulfhaven Mennonite Church Cemetery.
