Paul Gooch

Paul Leslie Gooch, Master Chief Petty Officer, US Navy ret. passed away 30 December 2017 after a short battle with cancer.
He was born 17 January 1942 in Lexington, KY and spent his childhood in Kansas and Texas.
He is survived by his best friend and wife Vickie (Gross) Gooch; children, James Paul, Brian Lee (Rebekah), Michael Jay, Jason Allen (Brittany), and Shana Lynn (Michael); grandchildren Brian Lee, Vincent, Karah, Maddison, Thomas and Michael; and his beloved dog Cherry.
Paul had a stellar 30-year military career, serving six years in the United States Marine Corps and 24 years in the Navy Seabee's, retiring as a Construction Master Chief (CUCM). He was a proud Vietnam veteran and received numerous medals/commendations including the Combat Action, Navy Achievement, Navy Commendation, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Vietnam Campaign, Navy Good Conduct, National Defense, and various other awards.
He enjoyed quality family time and RV traveling with Vickie and his beloved pets. He was an avid wood turner, who enjoyed making gifts for family and friends. He also enjoyed the occasional round of golf.
He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, life member of the following organizations: VFW Post 5782 in Elwood, IN; Seabee Veterans of America, Island X, Gulfport, MS; Disabled Veterans of America; Veterans of Foreign Wars; and Catholic War Veterans.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Woolmarket, MS; serving as a Eucharist Minister and Lector.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Maxine and James Gooch and his father in law Jack Ead.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Woolmarket, on Thursday, 11 January at 2pm, visitation will be from 1 - 2 pm.
Graveside services, with full military honors, will be in St. Josephs Catholic Cemetery, Elwood, IN at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Paul requested that donations be made to Cancer Society of America for Agent Orange research or St. Mary's Catholic Church, Woolmarket, MS.
Paul's wife Vickie and his family want to thank the St Mary's Knights of Columbus, St Mary's parish and our other friends that have helped us through these difficult times.
