Otis Ray Helton, age 83, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2016 in Biloxi, MS.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth ""Paula"" Gibson Helton; his parents, Frank E. Helton, Sr., Francis Moran Helton; 5 brothers, Frank E. Helton, Jr., George Helton, Alfred Helton, Sr., Johnny Helton, Sr., and Robert Helton, Sr.
He is survived by his sister, Ella ""Maggie"" Helton Thomas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
From 1950 to 1953 he served in the Korean War and was honored and given the Purple Heart for his heroic service. He loved the Gulf Coast waters and spent many years shrimping and fishing those waters to support his family. Many family gatherings were enjoyed with the great gulf seafood that he provided. Music was a passion for him and he believed a song could tell a story from the heart. His kind and gentle spirit will be missed by many.
A visitation will be held at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport from 1-2 PM on Friday, May 13, 2016. A graveside service will be held at Dobson-Holliman Cemetery 15235 O'Neal Road, Gulfport, MS 39503 directly following the visitation.
