Oscar Ladner

d. November 9, 2015

Oscar Buren Ladner, age 91, passed away Monday, November 9, 2015 in Gulfport Memorial Hospital in the Hospice unit at 8:00 p.m.
Oscar is survived by his two sisters, Molly Christine Skinner of Gulfport, MS and Mildred Ladner North of Sequim, WA.
Oscar was born in Prentiss, Mississippi and raised on a farm near Lumberton and Poplarville. He attended Poplarville Elementary and High School. Oscar earned his Bachelor's Degree from Mississippi State University, his Master's Degree from the University of Alabama and his Law Degree from University of Mississippi. When he graduated from high school World War II was happening and he wanted to join the Army but he had a hernia and had to have an operation to repair it so he could join the Army. He fought on the front lines in Germany and won a Bronze Star for his bravery. He battled PTSD for the remainder of his life after returning home. He found it difficult to speak of the horrors of the war that he had experienced until many years later when he wrote a book about it. It was therapeutic for him to finally be able to speak about what he had experienced in the war. His book is called ""A Test of Faith and Courage: Patton's Raiders"", available on Amazon.com in hardback and kindle. After graduating from Law School he set up a practice in Gulfport where he practiced law for over 40 years. While he was in law school his father passed away leaving his mother on the farm. He brought her to live with him until he could finish law school and provided for her and cared for her for the next 40 years in Gulfport.
Oscar always had a boat and sailed his 50 foot sailboat all over the gulf and the Bahamas. He was interested in photography and developing his own pictures in the days before digital cameras. He had learned to fly a small plane, loved gardening, enjoyed good food and loved to cook. He was interested in hunting and loved dogs and always had one or two. Oscar enjoyed travelling and later in life he revisited the sites in Germany where he had fought during World War II.
