Oscar Jordan

d. July 21, 2017

Oscar R. Jordan, 82, died Friday evening, July 21st, after succumbing to a lengthy illness.
A well-known Coast attorney, he practiced law in Jackson County for 40 years and was the city attorney for Ocean Springs for 36 years after having served as the City Judge.
Always ready with a new joke to tell, Jordan was popular among judges, lawyers, and secretaries alike for bringing a smile to their faces. His civic duties included service on the Jackson County Port Authority, the Jackson County Economic Development Foundation, Past President of the Mississippi Municipal Attorney's Association, the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce and a continuing membership with the Ocean Springs Rotary Club as well as the Masonic Lodge.
Jordan grew up in Latimer where he graduated in 1952 from St. Martin High School and went on to complete his college degree at Ole Miss in 1958 before serving as a Lieutenant in the U. S. Army at Ft. Hood, Texas where he met his wife Judith Guindon. He finished Ole Miss Law School in 1963 and opened his office in downtown Ocean Springs shortly thereafter. Wife Judie preceded him in death in the days immediately following Hurricane Katrina. He married long-time friend Joyce Adcock in October of 2016.
Jordan was additionally preceded in death by his parents, Naif and Jessie Jordan.
He is survived by his wife Joyce; his two sons, Robert and his wife Clarissa of Oxford, James and his wife Karen; and his two grandchildren, Hayley and Christopher Jordan, of Baton Rouge, sister Eleanor Cissy Jordan of Latimer and several cousins.
Fishing and hunting but mostly telling great stories were his favorite pastime, and he found pleasure in being with close friends and discussing their adventures as well as spending time with his family.
He retired from the practice of law in 2004 and then took up competitive .22 rifle sharp shooting and was nationally ranked high among those in his class. He met many new friends while pursuing his new-found interest and enjoyed helping them become better marksmen too.
Memorial remembrances can be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children (shrinershospitalsforchildren.org) in lieu of flowers.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 4:00 PM, with visitation for family and friends from 2:00 PM until the service, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd. at Washington Ave, West Jackson County.
