Norris is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Barbara Lee Sumrall; his children, Norris Reginald Sumrall, Jr. (Becky), Alan Ray Sumrall, Kimberly Ann Shaw (Lucien), Trina Kay Pelot (Sonny), Gaines Patrick Sumrall (Simone) and Ernest Newton Sumrall (Corinna); his stepchildren, Wayne Dawson (Ceceila) and Shelia Juana Schultz; 23 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
He was a band member and cheerleader at the Stone County High School in Wiggins, MS. Committed to furthering his education, he pursued business studies in Jackson and later attended Perkinston Junior College, focusing on accounting.
Norris honorably served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, an experience that afforded him the opportunity to travel extensively, including to Greenland, North Africa, and Western Europe. After completing his military service, he began his career with Borden Milk and Ice Cream Company in Biloxi, Mississippi, starting in home delivery. Through dedication and hard work, he eventually purchased a Borden’s franchise in Hancock County. He went on to serve as Plant Manager in Biloxi, retiring after an impressive 38 years with the company.
Mr. Sumrall was deeply involved in his community and civic organizations. He was a Past Matron of Bay St. Louis Eastern Star #129 and a devoted member of Master Mason Lodge #429 in Bay St. Louis for 50 years. His commitment to Masonry extended further as a Shriner and a Scottish Rite 33rd Degree Mason. In addition, he faithfully served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Gulfport.
In his retirement years, Norris enjoyed spending time on his boat, The Dolly Kay, as well as farming and traveling. His journeys took him across the entire United States, including multiple trips to Alaska. He also explored Canada, particularly the Northwest Territories and Churchill, famed for its polar bears, as well as Mexico, the Bahamas and the Hawaiian Islands.
The family would like to express our warm appreciation to St. Joseph Hopsice, to his nurse, Marissa Smith, as well as his primary caregiver, Courtney Caranna, and all the various physicians, PA’s and nurses.
