Nezzar "Ned" Patrick Byrd, age 66, of Gulfport, passed away on February 12, 2018.
Ned was born in Louisiana to Richard and Doris Lytell Byrd. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a forklift mechanic at the Port of Gulfport until 2011. He had been a mechanic for over 40 years, and in his spare time, loved fishing. He will be remembered for being kind-hearted and his willingness to help anyone in need.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Sharlene Byrd; his second wife, Geraldine "Lee" Byrd; son, Matthew Anthony Byrd; and his father Richard Byrd.
He is survived by his children, Ned Patrick Byrd of North Carolina, and Mignon Perkins (Jeffery) of Kiln; mother, Doris Lytell Byrd of CA; siblings, Larry Byrd of NY, Lillian Vita (John) of CA, Terry Perkins of PA, Tracy Byrd of TN, Nancy Rothenberg of NJ; and daughter-in-law, Brandy Byrd Evans of LA; grandsons, Tyler Byrd, Logan Byrd, Gavin Perkins, and Koby Perkins.
Funeral services with military honors will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org , and memories and photographs can be shared at www.riemannfamily.com .
