Nell Benefield Whittington, 102, a native of Gulfport, MS and a resident of Foley, AL, passed away on Sunday, Feb.3, 2013, at Robertsdale Nursing Home in Robertsdale, AL.
She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Gulfport, though for the last 15 years, she has lived with her daughter in Alabama.
Miss Nell is survived by her daughter, Patty R. Box (Mrs. Dan H.); grandsons, Dan H. Box, Jr. of Troy, AL and Nelson T. Box of Magnolia Springs, AL; 6 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who honored her in celebrating her 100+ birthdays including Robert Simpson and Donna Dabbs of Gulfport.
Mrs. Whittington was preceded in death by her husband, Earl D. Whittington; her parents, John T. and Ola Elizabeth Benefield; 5 brothers, Odell, Tom, Donald, Thelmer, and Louie Benefield; and 2 sisters, Hattie Becnel and Alice Simpson.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 8, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport. Reverend Roger Alewine will be officiating.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road in Gulfport, is assisting the family with arrangements.
