Nathan Herschel Grimsley, age 83, of Gautier, passed away on December 22, 2015 at Keesler AFB Medical Center.
He was born in Hattiesburg, MS and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He attended Hattiesburg public schools and later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean War. He later attended USM and then graduated from Phillips College. He retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding after 30 years of service in Production Control. He was a member of HUB City Masonic Lodge in Hattiesburg, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of the Joppa Shrine Temple, and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 151, Pascagoula. He was also a member of the AARP National Chapter and local chapter 1213, past member of the Gautier Civitan Club, a member of Gautier United Methodist Church since 1971 where he served as past president of the United Methodist Men, and past president of Jackson County United Methodist Men.
He enjoyed working in politics, hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He lived in Gautier for 44 years and spent many years with the American Red Cross in our community helping with numerous hurricanes and other disasters.
After retirement, he traveled extensively doing missionary work.
The family would like to give special thanks to the Doctors, nurses, and staff at the Home Bound Program at the VA in Biloxi and KAFB in Biloxi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Hugh Grimsley and Betty Carr Grimsley, brothers, James A. Grimsley, Charles ""Buddy"" Grimsley, Hugh Grimsley, and Claude Grimsley, 3 sisters, Mary Alice Wiggins, Helen Lee, and Velma Johnson.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Edwina Hooks Grimsley, of Gautier, and a daughter, Latitia Annette Grimsley, Spring, TX, and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be on Saturday, December 26, 2015, from 1 - 2 pm at Gautier United Methodist Church. The funeral service will be at 2 pm in the church sanctuary along with an Eastern Star Service. A graveside service, with military and masonic rites, will be on Sunday, December 27, 2015, at 2 pm in Oakvale Cemetery, Covington County, MS.
