Myrna Clemens Jordan, age 78, went home to be with the Lord on January 20, 2018.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Julee and Mary Evelyn Clemens; her brother, Pat Clemens; and the father of her children, Lamar Jordan.
She is survived by her children, Anastacia Jordan Broussard (Donald) and Daniel Steven Jordan (Suzanne Zimmer); a sister-in-law, Dot Clemens; her nephews, Greg Clemens (Sherry), Chris Clemens (Georgie), John Clemens (Becky), and Geoffrey Clemens (Eve); and numerous other relatives and friends.
Myrna was born on December 22, 1939 in Biloxi and was baptized at St. Michael's Church by Father J. Mullins. She was raised in Pascagoula and attended Our Lady of Victories Elementary School and then moved around because of her father's job. She graduated from Sacred Heart Girls School in Biloxi in May 1957.
She later entered the Sisters of the Most Holy Sacrament where she spent 6 years in formation and teaching at St. Joseph's School in Gretna and was in charge of the Boy Boarders at Infant of Prague Boarding School. After leaving religious life, she attended Spring Hill College in Mobile and transferred to Portland University in Portland, Oregon, where she graduated in 1965. Ms. Jordan began teaching at South Elementary in Pascagoula and in 1967, moved to Long Beach and began teaching 8th grade math. In 1972, she started teaching at St. Thomas School and later earned a Master of Education, Master of Guidance Counseling, and a Master of Administration degree.
In 1980, she accepted a position as Principal of Coast Episcopal School and served that role for 6 years. Ms. Jordan then returned to St. Thomas School as Principal and served for an additional 6 years. She then became Principal of Bay Catholic School and after 6 years she decided to change professions and she accepted the position of Director of Religious Education at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. After Hurricane Katrina, Myrna decided to retire but then accepted a position as a Guidance Counselor at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School and in 2012 she began volunteering at CASA.
Ms. Jordan was a devout member of St. Thomas Church and was active in various ministries around the parish. Her love and dedication to students will be remembered for generations to come.
Visitation will be on Saturday, January 27, 2018, from 9 am - 11 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 East Beach Blvd., Long Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am in the church. Interment will be in Biloxi City Cemetery.
