Myrna Lois Burney, a devoted homemaker and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026, in Diamondhead, Mississippi. Born on December 18, 1938, in Carriere, Mississippi, Myrna lived a full and meaningful life rooted deeply in the places she loved.
Myrna was a graduate of Carriere High School. Though she later made her home in Diamondhead, MS, her heart never left Carriere, where her journey began.
Throughout her life, Myrna found joy in a variety of pursuits. She was an avid bridge player and tennis enthusiast, always engaging in these activities with enthusiasm and a warm spirit. She also had a talent for painting, which gave her a special way to express her creativity and bring beauty to the world. Myrna was also an active and respected member of the Diamondhead Community Church, where she shared her faith and fellowship.
Family was at the center of Myrna’s life. She was married to Hugh Russell Burney for 65 years, sharing a lifetime of love and companionship. Sadly, Hugh preceded her in death. Myrna was the daughter of Arthur Carr Pearson and Eunice Hazel Smith Pearson, both of whom have also passed on.
She is survived by her three loving children: Cynthia D. Burney and her husband Lahcen Fagrach, Angela M. Webb and her husband David, and Cecilia Valudos and her husband Stephen; and her niece, Irene Sullivan Burney. Myrna’s legacy continues through her grandchildren Ashley Burney Turcotte, Jessica Jane Burney, Carlie Jane Burney, Jason Valudos, Steve Valudos, and Mark Valdus. She was also a proud great-grandmother to 10 great-grandchildren, whose lives she touched with kindness and care.
Myrna Lois Burney will be remembered as a woman who brought warmth and love to her family and community. Her quiet strength, creativity, and devotion remain an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know her.
Myrna's life will be honored on Saturday, May 2, 2026, beginning at 2:00 PM at Diamondhead Community Church.
