Murrell Weldon Hilton, Sr. passed away quietly surrounded by his loving family on September 27, 2014. He was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, on May 26, 1932, to Joseph and Etolia Hilton. He had one brother, Joseph A. Hilton, Jr. all of whom are deceased.
Murrell is survived by his wife, Linda; sons, Murrell (Ellen) Hilton, Jr., Joseph Hilton and Scott (Chris) Hilton; daughters, Melanie (Anthony) Nichols, and Juli Rester; fifteen grandchildren, and one great granddaughter, all of whom he greatly loved. Also, many relatives in Louisiana including his brother's children, Renee, Anice, Yvonne, Marguerite, and Barry who meant so much to him.
He attended Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. He graduated from the University of Mississippi where he met and married his wife of 60 years, Linda DeMetz Hilton. In 1955 he went to work for the Long Beach School System as a teacher, coach, school bus driver, principal, and assistant superintendent. Then he traveled all over the South as a school text book salesman and then as sales manager. Murrell loved to fish and hunt.
A memorial mass will celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Long Beach on October 25, 2014,a t 10:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 8:30 a.m..
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Humane Society of South Mississippi, 2615 25th Ave., Gulfport, MS 39501.
