Morrie Eakin

Morrie L. Eakin, (Moe), of Gautier, age 91, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2018.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Ethel Eakin of New Orleans, his loving sister-in-law, Jean Eakin, and dear niece, Suzanne Eakin Bruce.
He is survived by his beloved and devoted brother, Charles A. Eakin of Diamondhead, his daughter Cara Bass (Dennis) of Montgomery, Illinois, his nephew, Charles W. Eakin II (Jenneane) of Biloxi, two grand-nieces, Andrea Moreau (David) of Pass Christian, and Ashley Vilemont McFadden of Diamondhead, his grandnephews and grandnieces, Charles W. Eakin III (Kristi) of Grand Prairie, Texas, Eli Kolidas, Andrew Moreau, and Evie McFadden (all of Pass Christian). He is also survived by many pilot and airport friends around the Gulf Coast who shared his love of flying.
Mr. Eakin was born on June 6, 1926 in New Orleans. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946 and was stationed aboard the USS Sevier (APA 233) as a Radarman Second Class.  He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal (2 stars). After his honorable discharge, he graduated from Tulane University School of Business Administration in 1948.  He was then employed by RCA of Camden, NJ as a field service representative and traveled world-wide on military contract assignments. In later years, after completion of engineering equivalency studies, he was employed as an electronics engineer by RCA and subsequently General Electric after their acquisition of RCA.  In later years, Mr. Eakin was assigned to Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS as manager of the GE government services AEGIS TEST TEAM and retired in 1993, after 41 years of service.  He was an avid pilot and owned several of his own aircraft throughout his life.  He will be remembered especially for his sense of humor, love of flying, and his love for his family and friends.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, MS 39503.  Following, burial will be at the Biloxi National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
