Michael 'Mike' Joseph Adamo, a cherished figure known for his unwavering faith, gentle humor, and love for life, went to be with the Lord on September 9, 2024, at the age of 92. He passed away peacefully at home in Vancleave, MS, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and a warmth that touched all who knew him.
Born on August 7, 1932, in Hammond, Louisiana, Mike's journey began in a small town where values of family and faith were deeply ingrained in his heart. He grew to become a devoted member of Latimer Assembly of God Church, where he proudly served for 32 years. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through every joy and challenge he encountered.
Mike's career was marked by his dedication and skill with Ferry Boat Watchman Oiler and a welder at the Avondale Shipyard. His hands crafted more than just metal; they shaped a life filled with pride and craftsmanship. He approached his work with the same enthusiasm and diligence with which he tackled the passions that filled his days.
An avid outdoorsman, Mike found immense joy in fishing, motorcycle riding, hunting and guns, trips to the beach, and music that flowed as he played his guitar. He had a zest for life, and his favorite phrase, "I wonder what the poor folks are doing," reflected not only his light-hearted spirit but also his empathy towards others.
He is survived by his children Lisa DeVries, Darlene Gros (Dennis), Anthony Adamo (Danna) and John Adamo (Christina); grandchildren Shannon Wall, Derek Miller, Ryan Miller, Amanda Long, Michelle Adamo, Danielle Ellis, Denise Adamo, Jade Adamo, Shadie Brantley, Jasmine Adamo, John Adamo Jr.; and numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchildren; and his nephew AJ Adamo (Connie). Two children by marriage Richard James Hill, Michelle Dean (Mark); three grandchildren, Micheal Dean (Meaghan), Matthew Dean and Malachi Dean; two great-grandchildren, Mavery Dean and Maverick Dean.
Mike's heart was shared by two remarkable women who preceded him, Margaret Mary Adamo, his first wife, and Mary Margaret Adamo, his second wife, both of whom he loved deeply. He is embraced by the warmth of family, including his parents Anthony and Mariana (nee Catalanatto) Adamo. He also remembered his brothers Peter Adamo and Vincent Adamo, with fondness. Each of these relationships shaped the man he became, enhancing his character with the ties of love and companionship.
Though he has departed from this earthly realm, Mike's legacy of faith, humor, and love continues to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him. His spirit will forever remain a guiding light, reminding us of the strength found in love and the joy that life brings when we take the time to appreciate its beauty.
