Maybelle Hosford Brewer

Lizzie Maybelle Hosford Brewer, age 93, went to be with her Lord in the early morning hours of May 15, 2015, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Maybelle was known for her love of gospel music, and her decades of serving as a church pianist at various churches in Gulfport, most recently at O'Neal Road Baptist Church. She will be most remembered by all who knew her for her infectious laugh. Her laughter was so distinctive, in fact, that it won her a small role in the 1986 made-for-TV movie, ""The Wide Net"". She used her gifts to entertain through musicals and theater and always continued to share God's word through music.
Maybelle was born January 31st, 1922 in rural Greene County, Mississippi to Charlie and Eliza Hosford. She enjoyed a happy childhood in the Jonathan community. She met and married the great love of her life, Columbus Wesley ""Tommy"" Brewer, and they then made their home in Gulfport. Maybelle spent most of her years as a homemaker, but later in life she graduated from Phillips Business College and worked in the real estate field for a while. A personal highlight for her came in 1998 when the then-Mayor Bob Short issued a proclamation for ""Maybelle Brewer Day"" in the City of Gulfport.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by her brothers and sisters, Daisy Parnell, Johnny Hosford, Henry Hosford, Nina Parnell, William Hosford, and Mamie Guagliardo; her infant daughter, Mary; her sons, James Olan Brewer and Carl Wesley Brewer, and her grandson, Zachary Todd Brewer.
Maybelle is survived by her son, Travis Brewer of Daphne; her daughter, Teresa (Bruce) Roberts of Biloxi; her grandchildren, Tim Brewer, James Brewer, Kimberly Brewer Kramer, Gerald Brewer, Christopher Brewer, Kennedy Brewer Geyer, Elizabeth Robert, Bruce Lee Roberts, III, and many beloved great-grandchildren.
Mama Maybelle will be great missed by all. We will miss your smiling face and we will carry you in our hearts for all eternity. May God protect you and keep you safe in his arms.
Funeral services will be Sunday, May 17, 2015, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, MS, at 3:00pm. Visitation will be held two hours prior. Burial will be private.
