Burial
Maxine Marie Walden Ramsay passed away at her home, surrounded by loved ones, on March 20, 2026.
Born October 19, 1938, in Gulfport, MS, Mrs. Ramsay (Mac) spent most of her life in the Latimer Community on 7th generation of the original Sarah Cruthird’s property.
Married to her high school sweetheart for 69 years, she was a 1956 honor graduate of St. Martin High School. Later in life, she graduated with honors from MGCCC.
In her earlier years, Mrs. Ramsay taught Sunday School and was named a Mississippi Outstanding Adult Volunteer 4-H Club Leader for her works with youth in the community with the Larue 4-H Club and was formerly a member of the Latimer Extension Homemakers Club. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Ocean Springs.
Her volunteer work included sewing, tutoring adults in ESL, and taking up environmental and other worthwhile issues and causes. Employed as a civil service employee with the Air Force, Navy, and Census Bureau, she retired from the National Park Service with debilitating RA. Mac continued to travel, cook, read, and be an active member of the MS Gulf Coast Sierra Club when health permitted.
She is survived by her husband, James Byron Ramsay; and her children, Lena (JD) Matta, Ray (Terry) Ramsay, Lori (Kirk) Massey, and Sonny (Karen) Ramsay, who all live on adjoining properties in the Latimer Community.
Mac also leaves behind her grandchildren, Lene’ Krohn Braun, Ginger Matta (Anthony) Delaune, Holly Matta (Will) Mott, Justin (Ashley) Ramsay, Aaron (Sarah) Ramsay, Bret (Liz) Massey, Marie (Andrew) Eubanks, Dell Massey, Jerrica (Travis) Cain, Shay and Kale Ramsay, and bonus grandchildren, Leigh (James) Long, and Beau and Lacey Ducharme; her great-grandchildren, Dylan Matta, Cayden Gregory, Ty and Alayna Braun, Gracie and Lillian Mott, Max, Quin, Abby, Ellie, and Caleb Ramsay; and her sibling, Bobbie Jean Walden Rodriguez of D’Iberville.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd., Biloxi, with visitation beginning at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel. Son-in-law, John D. Matta, UMC Methodist Layman, will deliver the Message. Burial will follow in the Ramsay Family Cemetery at 13001 Pulpwood Road, Latimer.
In lieu of floral tributes, the family requests memorials be made to a favorite church or charity.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Light for the love they showed to Mac, and the care given to her during her final days.
