Maurice Michaud

March 19, 1926 — January 13, 2019

Maurice J. Michaud, 92 of Ocean Springs, MS, passed away at his residence on Sunday, January 13, 2019 after an extended illness.
Maurice was born in Lewiston, Maine on March 19, 1926, and graduated from Winthrop High School, Winthrop, Maine in 1943.  Upon graduating from high school and seeing that the U.S. was at the "peak" of World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.  He volunteered to serve on PT boats and was assigned to Squadron 41 for duty in the Pacific.
After World War II was won, his next U.S. Navy duty assignment was on the USS Macon (CA-132) for "good will" cruises to South America, followed by stops in Spain, France, Italy, and Turkey.  On the return trip to the USA, the crew opened the St. Lawrence Seaway, through the St. Lawrence River and the Great Lakes.
After 8 years in the U.S. Navy, Maurice transferred into the U.S. Air force.  He was assigned for 3 years as NCOIC of the radio maintenance crew at the Topsham Air Force Station, in Topsham, Maine, followed by a one year assignment to remote Alaska.  Shortly thereafter, he had a two year assignment as an instructor in Electronic Communication Maintenance, at Keesler Air Force base in Biloxi, MS.  During this assignment, he moved his family from Maine to Ocean Springs, MS.  Subsequently, he spent two years at an underground communications site in East Germany, followed by a year's remote assignment to Havre, Montana.  His last assignment in active duty was spent in Vietnam.  Throughout his military career, he received his Bachelor of Science Degree, as well as his Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering.  Maurice retired from the military in 1972 after serving 26 years in service to our great nation.
Post military retirement, Maurice was employed by Litton-Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS for over 18 years as an Electronics Installation Supervisor, then later as an Electronics Field Engineer.  In 1991, Maurice and his wife, Jeannine, retired completely and enjoyed several years of traveling.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion (Post 42).
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Marguerite; two brothers, Marcel and Bertrand; son, Gerard P. Michaud; and grandson, Chad Michaud.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Jeaninne; his sons, Andre (Jennifer) and Michael (Debra), of Ocean Springs, MS; his daughter, Francine Harris (Steve) of Worthington, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Lauren Michaud of Mandeville, LA; and his sister, Yvette Beaudoin of Dracut, MA.  He also leaves the joys of his life, 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Monday, January 14, 2019, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd. at Washington Avenue, West Jackson County, from 6:30-8:00 pm.
