Mattie Necaise Mitchell

July 1, 1921 — July 17, 2013

Mrs. Mattie Necaise Mitchell, 92, of DeLisle MS passed away on July 17, 2013, at her home with all her children around her.
She was born July 1, 1921, to John M. and Philomene Lenaz Necaise in DeLisle, MS, where she lived most of her life.
Mrs. Mitchell was an active and respected member of her church and community who devoted her life to loving and serving her family, friends and neighbors. She served as district president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary where she was a Life Member and spent many years as a volunteer at the Veterans Hospital. She was always willing to lend a helping hand. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her kind and compassionate spirit will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, M/Sgt Donald Lee Mitchell, Sr. USAF (Ret); brothers Merlin, Melvin, and J. C. Necaise; sister Grace Necaise Cunningham.
Survivors include her children: Cheryl (Terry) Smyly, Montgomery, AL; Elsie (Keith) Starita, Phyllis (Denny) Allen, both of Long Beach; Mary Beth Peres, DeLisle; Cecilia (Gary) Dern, Biloxi; Frances (Wayne) Mixon, Diamondhead; Donald Lee Mitchell, Jr. (Roberta), Long Beach; Melanie Mitchell, Spring TX; and Shelia Mitchell, Opelika, AL; sister Lois Necaise Curtiss; sister-in-law Helen Necaise; special nephew E.J. (Ann) Necaise, 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Paul Cook and Lisa Bissett of Gentiva Hospice for their care and compassion during our Mother's illness.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 9:30 to 11am and the Mass of Christian Burial is to be conducted at 11am, both Saturday. July 20, 2013 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church On Kiln DeLisle Road in Pass Christian, MS. An interment service will be held at Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Long Beach, MS immediately following services at the church.
