Mary Dene Sims Wages, age 75 of Vancleave, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, June 10, 2018, surrounded by family.
She was born on September 29, 1942, and raised in Bay Springs, MS. After attending Jones Junior College, she graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a teaching degree. She taught for 30 years, mostly at Vancleave Elementary School. She was a member of the Vancleave Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Tally Sims and Mary Elizabeth Sims; her sister, Cora Margaret Myrick; and her brother, John Rufus Sims.
She is survived by her husband, Larry A. Wages; her son, Jason (Cathy) Wages; her daughter, Amanda (John) Nabors; her 6 grandchildren, MacKenzie, Avery, and Hudson Wages, Katie, Mary Ashley and Lawson Nabors; an aunt, Bonnie Grace Ervin; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at the Vancleave Church of Christ on Friday, June 15, 2018 from 5:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m . The funeral service will be on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Vancleave Cemetary #2, Hwy 57, Vancleave.
In lieu of flowers, Mary Dene requested before her death that donations be made through the Vancleave Church of Christ to Skinner's Garden, a home for orphans and widows in India.
