Mary Ruth Butler Loper, age 92, of Gulfport, passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018 in Gulfport.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lanier Loper of Gulfport; her parents, Charlie Edward Butler and Effie Boswell Butler; three sisters, Earline Butler Mott, Dixie Butler Latimer and Willie Merle Butler Reynolds; and three brothers, James Elbert, Charlie Edward "C.E." and Bobby Ray Butler.
She is survived by her five children, Marsha Sharpe of Virginia, Charlotte Loper (Eugene) of Pennsylvania, Michael Loper (April) of Florida, Gary Loper and Kerry Loper (Charnyse), both of Gulfport; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a brother, Tommy Joe Butler (Eloise); and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Ruth was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church, where she served over the years in various roles as a nursery worker, a Vacation Bible School teacher, and a pianist for many Sunday School department assemblies. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and faithfully attended church services until her health failed.
She loved flower and vegetable gardening and sharing the bounty of her kitchen, garden and fruit trees, and she liked nothing better than preparing a huge home cooked meal for her family. She also loved music, especially gospel music.
The family would like to thank the staff of Seashore Highlands Senior Care and Canon Hospice for their compassionate care.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 16th at 2:00 p.m. at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, with a visitation for family and friends from 1:00 p.m. until the service time. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Gulfport.
