Mary McCaleb

Mary Ruth Hammett Fisher McCaleb, age 74, was promoted to Glory on Friday, July 8, 2022, in Gulfport.

She was a retired schoolteacher from the City of Gulfport School District where she taught at Central Jr. High School and the Learning Center. She earned a master’s in education and psychology from USM. She was an active member of The Salvation Army where she taught Sunday School, Bible, and other classes. She had a passion for Christ and for others.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael A. McCaleb; parents, Minnie & William Andrus, and Thomas Hammett; sister, Shirley H. Robinson; brothers, Donald Andrus, Ronald Andrus, Wesley Hammett, and Billy Hammett; and grandchildren, Noah and Bethany Fisher.

She is survived by her children, Lt. Roy Fisher of Meridian, MS, Thomas Fisher of Gulfport, Cheryl (Pam Holland) Fisher of Gulfport, Steven (Nancy Black) Fisher of Frankfort, KY, Michael (Renee) McCaleb, Lee (Stephanie) McCaleb, Benjamin (Chrystal) McCaleb and Timothy McCaleb, all of Petal; 21 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and adoptive daughters, Jacquelyn Murray, Heather Alexander, and Brandee Burgin.

She is survived by her sisters, Betty (Raymond) Farve of Lawrence, KS, Linda (Alfred) Bosarge of Biloxi, Janice Andrus of Gulfport, Shirley Hammett of Gulfport; brothers, Jimmy (Carol) Hammett of Long Beach, Buddy (Marilyn) Hammett of Biloxi, and Dallas Robinson; as well as a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews, and a multiple of friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at 3:00PM with a time of visitation from 2:00PM-3:00PM at The Salvation Army Center of Hope at 2019 22nd Street, Gulfport, MS. Christmas was her favorite time and the family requests that you wear  something Christmas to celebrate a life so loved by everyone.
